Most Popular Window Film Topic #1: Can You Install Window Film on Double Pane Windows?

Photo Of A Double Pane Window For A Blog Post Entitled Can You Install Window Film On Double-Pane Windows

Double pane windows became popular in the United States in the late 80s. They were created to make windows more energy efficient. Double pane windows are comprised of two panes of glass mounted in a frame with a spacer between them where inert gas is pumped it to act as an insulator.

When double pane windows first came on the market, the predominant window films available were dyed films or metallic films. Metallic films in general are double pane window safe, but not everyone likes the way they look – so dyed films were often used. Dyed films control solar energy by absorbing it and too  much absorption can cause glass to break or the seals on the windows to blow.

So, for a time, conventional wisdom said you can’t put window film on double pane windows because they will break. As with all things, technology moved forward and we began to have films come on the market like ceramic that reflect more energy instead of absorbing it without the shiny metal look. With the advent of ceramic films, the broad issue of window film on double pane windows was solved. But the myth persists that you should never film a double pane window.

The reality is that since 1989, most windows sold in the United States are double pane windows. And millions of windows have window film installed on them every year. So, with the right low absorption film, rated for double pane windows, the answer is: you can film double pane windows!

All Concord Window films are rated for double pane windows up to 40 square feet in size, including every shade of our most popular ComforTech™ Ceramic Series window film. So if you are looking to tint your double pane windows – you are safe with our film.

Most Popular Window Film Topic #2: Three Front Door Privacy Ideas

A Beautiful Front Foyer With Large Entry Doors With Sidelights For A Blog Post On Front Door Privacy Ideas On Concord Window Film'S Blog.

Like homes in general, the trend in front doors to add more glass. More glass in the door itself, and glass sidelights flanking the door. And here again, glass in front doors is great for letting natural light into a foyer or front entry.

But an unexpected drawback to the added glass, is a lack of privacy. Front doors most often face the road, so passersby have a front row seat to what is happening inside your home. This is another prime space where homeowners are looking for more privacy and considering the option of privacy window film.

Opaque window films like our matte white privacy let in natural light, but block views into the home 24 hours a day. Transparent films offer mostly daytime privacy (though there are strategies to create nighttime privacy that can be successful especially around lighted entryways) but allow you to still see out and see who is approaching your door.

Most Popular Window Film Topic #3: A Complete Guide to Privacy Film

Privacy Window Film

Our Complete Guide to Window Film is the most popular page on our website (outside of our homepage and product pages)! Folks are very interested in privacy solutions for their homes and we are not surprised.

The trend in home building has been to larger houses on smaller lots with more and larger windows. This affords three things homeowners seem to want: (1) more square footage, with (2) less outside area to maintain, and (3) as cited by the Freedonia Group, “there has been a trend in recent years for larger sized single-family homes featuring more windows to increase natural interior light.”

The unintended consequence of this trend is that homes are built close together with neighbors often having views directly into private spaces like bedrooms and bathrooms. Window film can be a great solution for those who want to keep out prying eyes without blocking natural light.

The popularity of our patio door window film kits, led us to start offering storm door window film kits in 2025. We had a number of folks that would buy the patio door kit to film a storm door or a single full lite door, so we created a kit with a single piece of 36” x 76” film. And they quickly became one of our most popular products. (Read more about the 2025 Concord Window Film bestsellers).

Storm doors are a unique situation because they offer some unique challenges with heat build up between the storm door and the entry door. This heat build up can cause damage to the entry door or can make metal hardware very hot to the touch. Our ComforTech™ solar control window film is a great way to reflect the heat away from your entry door and protect it by reducing the heat build up.
