General Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Concord Window Film’s ComforTech™ Ceramic Series films are professional-grade window films. Our film is produced by one of the largest manufacturers in the solar control industry and is provided to us under a confidential private label agreement. Concord Window Film is made with the same raw materials, adhesives, stabilizers, metals, ceramic coatings, and laminates found in the best films in our industry. And they are produced in ISO 9001 registered facilities. In short, Concord Window Film’s ComforTech™ Ceramic Series is the highest quality residential window film being sold directly to consumers today. Read more about our films here.

You can download our performance data here. All of Concord Window Film’s ComforTech™ Ceramic Series films are certified by the National Fenestration Rating Council, the official rating agency for the window film industry.

Yes. All our films are manufactured with a durable and crystal clear UV cured hard coat that protects the film from scratching and damage during routine cleaning operations.

Yes. Concord Window Film guarantees our products against manufacturing defects through our limited warranty. Customers should follow our warranty claim guidelines that can be found here.

There are two types of privacy film: transparent and opaque.

Transparent privacy film can only provide daytime privacy. Our three darkest ComforTech Ceramic Series shades provide daytime privacy: 25, 15, and 05. 25 is the lightest of the three shades and 05 is the darkest. Our Silver 15 Reflective film also provides great privacy.

If you want both day and nighttime privacy you would need an opaque window film like our Matte White Privacy.

No transparent privacy film can provide 100% privacy. You would need to obscure the window completely to do that. That’s because transparent film works by creating a one-way mirror effect on the exterior side of the window when it is brighter outside than it is inside. Because this effect depends on outside light conditions in relation to inside conditions, as those exterior conditions change (i.e. during a storm with dark clouds, a very cloudy day, or as the sun sets) and in turn the interior conditions change (you turn on the lights) the amount of reflection the film creates on the exterior decreases.

Some things you can do to improve the privacy is to make the outside in front of the windows bright at night with house lights or landscaping lighting. Again, the brighter it is outside, the better the mirror effect will be.

Not very well. The sound attenuation properties of window film are practically insignificant. It certainly would not justify the cost if they are to be used for this purpose. We do not have any actual data.

Installation Frequently Asked Questions

Installing window film is one of the easier do-it-yourself projects there is.  But like all home projects, good preparation is critical – starting with a clean window is key to ensuring the best result. All of our films are made with a dry adhesive that is activated with a soap and water solution, so the film will not stick to itself as you peel off the liner or move it around. In addition, there is no sticky residue, no messy clean-up, and no extraordinary skill involved.

Here is the basic process:

  • Clean the inside surface of the window (films are always applied on the inside)
  • Remove the protective liner from the film using the applied tab (exposing the adhesive)
  • Spray the film and the window with the soap/water mixture
  • Apply the film to the window
  • Squeegee out the water and trim the edges.

For complete instructions, please visit our installation instructions page.

Concord Window Film should always be installed on the inside of the window.  The film will stick to the outside, but it will greatly reduce the life of the film.  This is in part because the UV stabilizers are incorporated within the film’s mounting adhesive, so the adhesive side must be facing the sun (installed on the inside, facing out).

In addition, our ComforTech Ceramic Series film is dual reflective which means the exterior side of the film is more reflective than the side that faces into the home. If you install the film on the outside of the window:

(1) You will be facing the more reflective side of the film into the home potentially creating a mirror effect inside

(2) You will be lowering the performance of the film by reducing the amount of solar energy the film can reflect by placing the lower reflectivity side to the exterior.

Our films are removable, but they are not reusable. Concord Window Film’s ComforTech™ Ceramic Series is an adhesive-backed film that is made to be permanently installed and last decades on your window. For instructions on how to remove window film, please click here.

You will need products to clean the glass, a blade to cut the film, a squeegee, and a sprayer with soap and water solution.  For a complete checklist of recommended installation items, please click here. We also offer an installation kit with everything you need to install Concord Window Film.

We recommend you purchase the installation tool kit along with your film. The tool kit contains everything professionals would use to install the window film.

Using the wrong tools – especially during the squeegeeing phase of installation or the wrong installation solution – can lead to installation problems.

For example, having bubbles appear under the film after it has dried is a sign that it has not been properly squeegeed. You need the correct tool that is hard enough to press all the water and solution out from under the film without damaging the film itself.

And using anything other than slip-tack solution or baby shampoo in the installation solution can leave behind a residue under the film that will compromise the optical clarity of the film.

It’s also important that you use a clean spray bottle when mixing the installation solution. Any residue from past chemicals or detergents that were previously in the bottle can adversely affect the film and/or it’s adhesive.

Yes, all of Concord Window Films ComforTech™ Ceramic Series products are made to be installed on single or double pane windows less than 40 square feet in size.

You should know that any excessive heat on a window can lead to rupturing of the window seals (the units will fog up) or to glass breakage due to high thermal loads. This situation is well known to the entire solar film industry. Concord suggests that all customers evaluate their window conditions before purchasing any window film by using our handy guide to determine if your windows are a good fit for window film.

For more information, read our post on double pane windows.

Please note that thermal shock and seal failure occurs even on windows where no window film has been applied.  Less than 0.1% of all windows in The United States have window film applied to them, yet windows can and do break every single day.  This means that 99.9% of all windows that break do not have window film on them.  Because of this, Concord does not offer a thermal shock or seal failure warranty.  If your application requires this type of guarantee, you should consult a professional installer.  Be sure to inquire about any exclusions, limitations, and deductibles that might apply.  You should also ensure that the particular film you and your professional installer agree upon is covered under the glass warranty program.

No.  Films must be installed on glass only, or surface damage may result.  If you install the film on any type of plastic (such as Lexan or Plexiglas), bubbles will form underneath the film.

Read our post on polycarbonate and plastic surfaces for more detailed information.

No.  Concord Window Film will only adhere to smooth glass surfaces.  The films will not adhere properly to glass blocks, textured, sandblasted, or other types of non-smooth surfaces.

We’ve provided a small tab on the liner side and a tab on the film side of each piece of Concord window film in our kits. The tab that says “Peel Here” is on the liner side of the film; the blank tab is on the film side. Pulling the tabs apart will allow you to separate the liner from the film. For a visual, watch our video on removing the liner.

If you’ve purchased a roll of film, you will receive tabs in a yellow sleeve along with the film. Use these tabs on each piece of film you cut to help remove the liner. Refer to the video above for placement and technique.

If you need more tabs than provided, you can substitute in tape for tabs.

Concord’s ComforTech™ Ceramic Series Film can take up to 30 days to fully cure depending on conditions. For the best results, please do not wash the windows until 30 days after installation.

Common window washing solutions may be used to clean Concord Window Film, along with a soft cotton rag such as an old T-shirt.

Avoid any abrasive cleansers or towels. We suggest using the same water & Slip-Tack mixture that you used to install the film (one teaspoon of Slip-Tack to a quart of water).

Our films are as durable as the paint on a car.
