Concord Window Film’s ComforTech™ Ceramic Series custom cut kits are precision-cut to your exact measurements, labeled by window, and shipped ready to install. No cutting, no guesswork, no waste.
Custom cut kits are available in six standard widths up to 72″ and lengths up to 180″, making them ideal for sliding glass doors, patio doors, picture windows, and any other window that falls outside standard sizing.
Which Film Comes in Custom Cut Window Film Kits?
Only our best-selling ComforTech™ Ceramic Series window film is the only film that comes in custom cut window film kits. ComforTech™ is by far our biggest selling window film (90%+ of what we sell). We are able to offer custom cut window film kits for ComforTech™ because we sell so much of it.
We sell a handful of other films (Matte White, Clear UV, 4MIL Safety and Silver 15 Reflective) to round out our offering but we don’t do enough volume in them to warrant a custom cut program.
What Sizes Do Custom Cut Window Film Kits Come In?
Custom Window Film Kits Available Options:
Shades: 45 • 35 • 25 • 15 • 05
Widths: 24” • 30” • 36” • 48” • 60” • 72”
Lengths: 1” Increments • Minimum 12” • Maximum 180”
Custom window film kits can be ordered for our ComforTech Ceramic Series window film only. Kits are available in six standard widths: 24”, 30”, 36”, 48”, 60”, and 72” and in lengths starting at a minimum of 12″ and increasing in 1′ increments up to a maximum of 180″.
Please note, that ComforTech film is not approved for windows over 40 square feet in area due to the increased risk of thermal stress failure with the glass – so we won’t fulfill orders for any single piece of film greater than 40 square feet in size.
How Do You Order Custom Cut Window Film Kits?
You can order custom cut window film kits on our custom cut page: https://windowfilm.com/custom-window-film-kits. Follow the steps below to purchase kits for your project:
Step 1: Choose Your Shade
ComforTech Ceramic Series comes in five performance shades that are from darkest to lightest: 05, 15, 25, 35, 45. Use our guide to select the shade of window film you want to purchase. If you are unsure, consider ordering a window film sample kit to view the film in your home.
Step 2: Measure Your Windows
Then measure the width and height of the glass portion of your windows only. Do not include the window frame. Add one inch to the width and the height for exact trimming to size (some older windows may not be plumb and final trimming ensures a perfect installation).
For the width, round up to the next largest standard width available. So for example, if your window measures 28″ wide, adding 1″ for trimming to the exact size yields 29″. Round up to the next available width which is 30″ and select that.
Lengths are available in 1″ increments and can be entered as calculated (measured with the addition of 1″ for exact trimming).
Read our full article on measuring your windows for window film.
Step 3: Choose the Custom Cut Window Film Measurements
Now that you have your measurements, use them to choose the dimensions on our Custom Cut Window Film Kits page.
First choose your width. Remember, we have six standard widths to choose from:
24”, 30”, 36”, 48”, 60” and 72”
Choose the width that is equal to or larger than your width +1” measurement. An important thing to note is that our film can be oriented either way – so if your length matches more closely to one of our standard width options, feel free to enter the film that way.
Pro tip: When I price out custom cut orders for customers, I always add in the dimensions both ways to see which one is a more efficient use of film (and therefore less expensive!)
Next choose your length. Lengths are available in 1” increments with a minimum length of 12” and a maximum length of 180”. Please keep in mind that we will not sell a piece of film larger than 40 square feet in size (this is because larger panes of glass have a higher risk for breakage – with or without window film).
The window film calculator will automatically calculate the price of the piece of film.
Step 4: Add in the Quantity Needed
Finally, select the number of pieces of film you need at the dimension you just entered. Remember So if you need three pieces of film 30” x 41”, you would select quantity of 3 and then add that dimension film to your cart.
For additional pieces of film, you will need to return to the custom cut page and enter each in individually following the same steps.
Why Can’t You Custom Cut to My Exact Size?
This is a question we get asked frequently. And the answer is because of how our film is custom cut. Let’s first look at the standard width question:
Standard widths:
We take a roll of film in the width closest to the width you need, and we cut the film to length by hand on our cutting tables. Of course we take the utmost care when cutting, but hand cut pieces naturally aren’t as precise as machine cut pieces.
We always want you to have two factory (machine cut) edges to the film we provide you which is why we only provide standard widths.
A secondary reason is if we cut to any width, we would not be able to yield the film efficiently and would have much more waste which would result in us having to charge more for the kits. Having several standard widths helps us offer this service at reasonable prices.
Whole inch increments:
The second way we cut is in whole inch increments. The reason for this because the professional way to install window film, is to place the film on the window when it is at least a ½” to 1” larger than the glass pane.
This is because window frames are not always true and square and the only way to ensure a tight fit of the film to the frame is to do the final trim at the window. If a piece of film is cut even a little bit scant, it will create a light gap at the edge which will be bothersome and annoying.
What Are the Benefits of Custom Window Film Kits?
Save Time
Having the window film cut for you to the approximate sizes you need saves you time during installation. We will cut and label each piece of film for you by size so that all you need to do is clean the windows and start installing film. The measuring and cutting is done for you.
Simplify the Installation Process
Hand in hand with saving time, is simplifying the installation process. If you are a bit unsure about window film installation (don’t be! It’s not that hard ), having the film precut for you takes the guesswork out of installing window film.
Plus, you don’t need to worry about measuring, marking, and cutting the film to size from a larger piece of film or roll and potentially making a mistake during that step.
Minimize Waste
If your windows don’t fit into the standard precut kit sizes we offer, purchasing a roll of film might leave you with more film than you actually need.
When Should You Order a Custom Window Film Kit?
Here are some typical use cases we see why customers order custom cut window film kits:
Custom Window Film Kits Use Case #1:
Windows are too large or small for our precut kits, and
- you are only filming one or two windows and purchasing a roll would leave you with a lot of extra film, or
- you don’t want the hassle of having to cut individual pieces from a roll
Custom Window Film Kits Use Case #2:
You are filming your double-hung windows in the house with our precut kits, but have one window (like a picture window) that is too large for our pre-cut kits.
Custom Window Film Kits Use Case #3:
All of your windows are a standard size, and you are purchasing a 36” roll for the cost savings, but you need just a few feet more than the roll offers, so you order the one extra piece of film as a custom cut.
What Else Should You Know Before Ordering?
- There is a $15 custom kit handling fee for all custom window film kits orders.
- Product returns are not allowed for this item as the film is custom cut to size. Please ensure proper measurements and shade selection prior to ordering.
- The lead time for custom kits may range between 7 to 10 days as all orders are fulfilled from our East Coast Service Center.
- Please note that installation tools are not included with custom kits. Our professional installation tool kit can be purchased separately.
What Windows Are Best Suited for Custom Cut Window Film Kits?
Custom cut kits are the right choice for:
- Oversized sliding glass doors and patio doors — any oversized patio door with glass height greater than 76″ and width greater than 36″ wide, these exceed standard precut kit sizes and are perfect for a custom cut kit
- Picture windows — large single-pane windows with no dividers; often require a 48″+ width
- Tall narrow windows — sidelights, transom windows, or craftsman-style windows with non-standard proportions
- One-off windows in an otherwise standard home — when most windows are handled with precut kits but one doesn’t fit
